Does your horse scratch its ears, head, belly, legs, etc.? Lotions are not the best type of product for such areas. But first of all, you need to know which natural anti-itch cream your horse needs, according to how thick its skin is.
Is the skin thin or thick?
Finding out couldn’t be easier: pinch a bit of the skin on your horse’s neck between thumb and forefinger. If you have picked up a narrow fold of skin (as in the left-hand photo), then your horse has thin skin. If, on the other hand, you have a wider fold of skin (as in the right-hand photo), the epidermis is more likely to be thick.
Of course, when a horse has dermatitis, we tend to focus on the irritated, lichenified and therefore thickened skin, but that’s just the result of all the scratching and doesn’t represent the true identity of the epidermis.
Choose the right Derfen™ cream
TICK SKIN= DERFEN™ CLEAR CREAM
THIN SKIN (or normal skin)= DERFEN™ ORIGINAL CREAM
Derfen™ ORIGINAL cream, or “D.O.C”, is a thick, waxy balm – true enough, it is strong smelling and dark in colour, but it has an incredible effect on the itching, whatever the type of skin (thin or thick). It has an amazingly soothing, restorative effect!
Derfen™ Clear cream is perfect for thick skin. It stimulates skin hydration and brings instant relief.
Derfen™ Clear cream can be applied inside the ears (upper third), on the head (avoid eyes and brows), on the legs, etc.
